A flash-based thermal simulation of scanning paths in LPBF additive manufacturing

Purpose This paper aims to propose an analytical thermal three-dimensional model that allows efficient evaluation of the effect laser-scanning path. During manufacturing by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), path influences thermo-mechanical behavior parts. Therefore, it is necessary validate generation considering induced this process improve quality Design/methodology/approach The proposed model, based on successive flashes along scanning path, calibrated and validated comparison with results obtained FEM software experimental measurements. A numerical investigation performed compare different strategies Ti6Al4V material stimulation parameters. Findings simulation confirm effectiveness approach simulate field strategy. It suggests a change in scale thanks high-performance computing resources. Originality/value flash-based designed ensure simulated while minimizing computational cost.
